Michael did postdoctoral work on  marine reserves at ASU, and on ecological-economic modeling at UFZ-Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany. He is a Senior Associate in the Sustainable Finance team at World Resources Institute, working on a number of research and analysis projects related to international climate finance. Michael holds a PhD in Environmental Science, Policy and Management from the University of California at Berkeley, with a focus on ecological modeling and conservation planning.

Michael worked in the field of environmental studies, climate change, and international development. He was Senior Associate at ABT Associates, and was the Technical Director for the USAID Analysis and Investment for Low-Emission Growth project. He has consulted for various international organizations such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the African Development Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme. Michael was an American Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology Policy Fellow with the EPA’s Office of International Affairs, and worked on a science cooperation and weapons non-proliferation project in the former Soviet Union.
