RESEARCH INTERESTS
I’m a PhD student in Environmental Life Sciences. My research broadlyfocuses in marine protected areas and marine spatial planning. I’m interested in the impacts of climate change, such as rising ocean temperatures and ocean acidification, on the connectivity of marine protected area networks and what the implications are for marine spatial planning. Also, I’m interested in exploring quantitative methods that can generate measures of overall economic importance of fishing areas under a spatially-explicit analysis as a means of evaluating and incorporating socioeconomic factors and local community interests into conservation planning. Specifically, I want to apply my research to the Gulf of California in Mexico.

BACKGROUND
I was born and raised in Saltillo, Mexico. I completed my B.Sc. at the University of Texas at Austin in Marine and Freshwater Biology. Then I completed my MSc. in Biology, Ecology and Evolution at the University of Poitiers (France) and in Environmental Management at the University of Kiel (Germany) as part the European Master in Applied Ecology from Erasmus Mundus (EMAE).
